Recent editions of The Pasadena-Star News report on some interesting (read: dicey) occurrences going on in our neighborhoods lately. Here’s the latest two items:

PASADENA — A 28-year-old man was robbed at an ATM machine on the 100 block of West California Boulevard early Saturday morning.Just after midnight, the man was using the machine when another man approached him with a gun and told him to leave, Pasadena Police officials said. His ATM card was still in the machine, officials said.

When police arrived, the suspect was gone, along with the ATM card.

The suspect is described as a 20-year-old Latino man, about 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds, wearing a grey sweatshirt and black pants.

To avoid being robbed at ATM’s, police advise that people plan ahead so they won’t have to make withdrawls at night, Pasadena Police Lt. Chris Russ said.

If they must use an ATM during late hours, people should always be aware of their surroundings and try to use a machine that is indoors or in a well-lit area, he said. Anyone with information about the robbery can contact police at (626) 744-4522.

Then there’s this:

A 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing a car and being in possession of drugs after a short pursuit that began near the Art Center College of Design.

The ordeal began just before 3 p.m. on Friday when a man at the college noticed his car being driven away as he walked to the parking lot, Pasadena Police officials said.

The man notified police, then hopped in a friend’s car and pursued the burglar, officials said.

By informing police where the stolen vehicle was headed, the man helped them recover his car near the intersection of Palmetto Drive and Orange Grove Boulevard, officials said.

But the suspect fled on foot, officials said.

He was later arrested at the intersection of California Boulevard and Pasadena Avenue, officials said.

Police also found discarded methamphetamine and shaved ignition keys that had been allegedly ditched by the suspect when he fled, officials said.
