Pasadena Police Apprehend Wanted Kidnap Suspect, Jose Castillo this past Saturday

On June 19th, 2010 at approximately 9:40 AM, the Pasadena Police Department arrested Jose Castillo for the assault and kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend on May 27th at a South Lake Avenue parking structure.  “The investigation has been on-going with detectives assertively following up on leads regarding Mr. Castillo’s whereabouts,” says Detective Lieutenant Tracey Ibarra, “He knew he was wanted by police and went into hiding, making it challenging to apprehend him right away, but good work by our Detectives and Fugitive Apprehension Team resulted in Mr. Castillo’s arrest without incident at a family member’s home in Duarte. “ Jose Castillo is currently being held at the Los Angeles County Jail for a kidnapping, domestic violence, and a terrorist threats warrant.  His bail is $400,000 and he is scheduled to be arraigned at the Pasadena Superior Court on June 22nd.  “The coordinated efforts by law enforcement officers in tracking down and arresting this dangerous individual is to be commended,” says Interim Chief of Police Christopher Vicino.  “But most importantly, the victim’s fears can be mitigated knowing that Castillo is arrested and behind bars.”

The investigation has revealed that Castillo attacked his former girlfriend from behind then dragged her to a subterranean parking lot where he attempted to force her into his car. Witnesses intervened and called the police. “They struggled to detain him, but he fought and broke free,” says Interim Chief of Police Christopher Vicino.  “Without their intervention there may have been a very different outcome for this victim.

This was a violent attack and it important that we find Castillo and get him off the street.” Castillo knows he is wanted by the police.

Anyone with any information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the Pasadena Police Department at (626) 744-4241 or Detective Sandeen at (626) 744-7099.
